Votes for Texas WomenSymposium and Exhibition Celebrating the Centennial of the 19th Amendment - Hosted by the Harris County Law Library

On August 18, 2020, which was the 100th anniversary of the day the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, the Harris County Law Library hosted a symposium in honor of a century of progress toward voting rights for women. Mariann Sears, the first woman to serve as director of the Law Library, welcomed accomplished women from Houston's legal community to discuss the history of voting rights for women and the importance of inclusion in law and government.

This recording is accredited by the State Bar of Texas for 2.0 hours of CLE and 1.0 hour of ethics from October 22, 2020, through September 22, 2021.

What’s in a logo?

The colors of the National Women’s Party suffrage flag were purple, white, and gold. When Texas became one of the original 36 states to ratify the 19th Amendment, the map of Texas was emblazoned with the colors, which now serve as the color palate for the Law Library’s 19th Amendment Centennial events.
