On September 29, 2021, the Harris County Clerk’s Office (HCCO) announced that an additional 1.2 million marriage licenses are now available on its website, closing a gap in records from 1944 to 2008. So, we thought this would be a good time for a blog post on the types of records available on the HCCO’s website and how to search for them.

There are eight (8) categories of searchable records available on the HCCO website:

  • Marriage License: information and images available from 11/9/1944

  • Probate: probate case records from 11/17/1837, with images available from 1/1/2008

  • County Civil: civil case records from the county courts of Harris County from 1/3/1977, with images available from 1/1/2008

  • Real Property: property records, with images available from 1/1/1961

  • Maps and Condos: condo and map plat records, originating dates unknown

  • Assumed Names: DBA (“doing business as”) records from 1/3/1978, with images available from 12/31/1991

  • Misc. Personal Records: personal records from 5/30/1962, with images available from 8/8/1996

  • Animal Brands: images available from 9/8/2011

  • Foreclosures: images available from 12/3/2013

Steps for Searching:

Certified and non-certified copies of records are available for a fee, and both options require creating an account through the HCCO Document Search Portal.
