It’s National Library Week, and the Harris County Robert W. Hainsworth Law Library is celebrating! This year’s theme is “Connect with Your Library.” In recognition of the many organizations in Harris County that are committed to improving access to justice, we are spotlighting the community partners with whom we share a common goal – connecting with low income individuals and families in need of legal assistance, information, and resources. We, the Law Library, connect with them, the vital community partners, so that all of us can connect with you, the many visitors we see every day!
These organizations play an essential role in helping narrow the justice gap in Harris County. They provide direct legal aid service, as as well as indirect support, in an effort to reduce the disparity in access to the legal system. During the pandemic, these vital community partners have been indispensable, helping many low-income residents resolve issues surrounding eviction, housing, debt collection, domestic violence, and other family-related concerns.
A directory of the organizations with whom we connect is published on our website in multiple languages. Called the Pro Se Litigant Handbook, it provides a comprehensive list of legal aid services in the Greater Houston Area. Our Community Resource Guides also offer organized lists of information and resources. By providing these many resources, as well our daily reference services, we aim to connect with you! If we can connect in more meaningful ways to help with your legal needs, we always welcome suggestions. We can’t make connections without you. Happy National Library Week!
